Dr Hayley Waller

General, Oncoplastic Breast, & Endocrine Surgeon - MBChB, FRACS

Hayley is a New Zealand-trained general surgeon with a particular focus on breast surgery — including oncoplastic procedures — and endocrine surgery covering thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal conditions.

She graduated from the University of Otago in 2006 and completed her surgical training across New Zealand, working in Nelson, Tauranga, and Hawke's Bay before heading to Dublin, Ireland, for a breast and endocrine fellowship at St Vincent's University Hospital. Back in Christchurch, Hayley holds roles as a Senior Medical Officer and Clinical Senior Lecturer in the Department of General Surgery at Christchurch Hospital, and serves as Unit Lead for Breast — overseeing the direction and delivery of breast surgical services.

But ask Hayley what matters most, and the answer is always the same: understanding your story. She believes surgery starts with listening — to what's worrying you, what you need, and how she can help. Her approach is straightforward, warm, and honest. You'll always know what's happening, why, and what comes next.

Outside the operating theatre, Hayley is a Marlborough Sounds regular — you'll find her out on the water with her family, fishing and boating whenever she gets the chance. She's also a passionate baker who channels her skills into charity fundraising, because caring about people doesn't stop at the clinic door.
